Susan Malchose

Susan Colleen Malchose, the daughter of Donald and Eva (Sattler) Mears was born on August 1, 1946 in Rugby, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 71 years on Monday, May 28, 2018 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Susan was raised on the family farm, east of Knox.  She graduated from Knox Public School in 1964.  She raised her family in Leeds, along with working various jobs at Earls Bar in Leeds, NBL in Cando and Robodyne of Rugby.  She later attended Josephs School of Hair in Minot and worked at the J.C. Penny Salon until her retirement in 2014.  Susan was an avid reader and shopper and she enjoyed puzzles and traveling.

Susan is survived by her longtime partner, Robert Smeltzer of Leeds; three sons, Todd of Leeds, Donald (Laura) of Minot and Kelly (Angie) of Dickinson; six grandchildren; a brother, William (Barbara) Mears of Leeds; a sister, Rhonda Tuenge of Rugby; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Gunderson; sister, Bridget Mears; nephew, Cole Hoffert and her parents.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1 at the St. Vincent de Paul’s Catholic Church in Leeds.  Father Daniel Musgrave, Celebrant.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
