Tom was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, served on the Anamoose Fire District, the Orrin School Board and the Orrin Sacred Heart Parish Council.  In 1969, Tom and Betty were awarded the Pierce County Soil Conservation Award.  Tom continued helping his son on the family farm for many years after retirement.

His surviving family includes his wife, Betty of 64 years; children, Joe (Nancy) of Jamestown, Ken (Peggy) of Rugby, Doug (Sue) of Dickinson, Deb (Randy) Schneibel of Oxbow and Pete (Kim) of Orrin; 10 grandchildren, Angie (Jason) Jelinek; Andy (Jennifer) Burgard, Nathan (Michelle) Burgard, Michelle (Dave) Malchow, Ryan (Jessica) Schneibel, Jeremy (Kari) Burgard, Caleb (Candice) Burgard, Tyler Burgard, Travis Burgard and Mindy (Trent Johnson) Stier; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Fettig, Barbara Wolf and Catherine (Lawrence) Lemer; sister-in-law: Lena Burgard; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceeded in death by his parents; a great grandson: Henry Burgard; brother: Mike Burgard; sisters, Julia (Mike) Thomas, Frances (Pete) Bachmeier, Tillie (Vern) Penzkover, Pauline (Edwin) Lithun, Mary (Joe) Schneider, Betty (Al) Morgan, Magdelina (Lester) Woitte and Vernie (Leo) Keller.

Uncle Tommy your smile, sense of humor, and kindness towards all of us, nieces and nephews, will always be remembered. The times of our families gathering at Uncle Tom and Aunt Betty's farm for Sunday summer afternoon softball games or winter days for cards and other games are treasured memories. May you rest in peace.

All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will remember Uncle Tom for..forever. Especially want Aunt Betty to know I send her special condolences at this difficult time. I won't be attending the funeral, but that doesn't mean I won't have you all in my thoughts and prayers.I love this picture of Uncle Tom, shows his unbelievable twinkle that he always had in his eyes.  We all were blessed having him in our lives for 91 years. I know he was welcomed with open arms by our Lord and Savior.  Rest in Peace..Uncle Tom.

So sorry for the loss of your father. Uncle Tom was one of my favorite uncle's. I have so many fond memories of him. I truly believe he is playing cards right now up in heaven. I'm sure the funeral will be a celebration of his life.
